Joining #wearhappycolor2021 #wearhappycolor with the little red I have in my closet 🌹 I love playing dress up with what’s in my closet but I don’t often share the results because my shares are usually journal entries for items I’ve recently made!
And now for the end of my winter knitting bender: this delightful Neapolitan ice cream-inspired sweater 🍦 @good_night_day patterns were what made me want to learn to knit for myself and many knitter friends assured me that they were a great place for a beginner to start (they were correct!).
If you think that all I’m doing these days is knitting and wearing Birkenstock house slippers, you’d be correct 💁🏼‍♀️ I finally finished my #holidayslipover by @petiteknit (made in Rowan Big Wool in Golden Olive) and have been spending my morning trying it on with different items in my closet (go to @gyasti’s reels to see how she styles hers!!). I wore it today with my #zwgatherdress and I love the colors together.
Knitted garment number two in the books—this is the #urbanfishermansweater from the @loopymango knitting book made in ivory #crazysexywool by @woolandthegang. The model in the book is wearing a somewhat oversized version which is nowhere near the finished measurements of the sweater (or the versions under the hashtag) but the cropped look is growing on me. I’ve got plenty of high waisted bottoms to pair it with! (These are #persephonepants, btw.) This was my first time knitting cables and it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be, it just required more attention to detail in the instructions.
The creative dam broke last week and I made a thing for the first time in months! This #hercardigan from the @loopymango knitting book is the first garment I’ve ever knit for myself, and I accidentally chose the same weight and color yarn that I used for my first ever knitting project almost a year ago (scroll back in my feed to find my long skinny throw that my husband loves to mock but my kids find very practical), but it’s what was available and it makes for a great millennial neutral (this is Crazy Sexy Wool by @woolandthegang in Cameo Rose). Knitting was the right thing to ease me back into making and I found the entire process very doable thanks to the simplicity of the pattern and bulkiness of the yarn to hide any mistakes. Loopy Mango also has a YouTube channel explaining some of the techniques specifically for their patterns (which all use bulky yarns) which I found helpful.
My family has been gathering for New Year’s Eve since 1997 (? I think?), and we missed it for the first time last year since we thought we’d be traveling back to the US for a wedding a couple months later (ha!). This year we aren’t traveling anywhere during the holidays and that’s a first too. So many FEELINGS!! 🙃

If there’s one item in my closet (or my kids’ closet) that I’ll always have multiples of each year, it’s a bathing suit. Continue reading →
